Ron English Rabbbit Soft Vinyl Figure

Before the film gained popularity, many people may not have been familiar with Ron's colorful, unique style, but they'll probably never forget it.  | The art style of Nancy is graphic communication stripped down to the core. Iconic, minimalist, with a simple storytelling sequence that could be immediately comprehended as easily as a stop sign on the road. Although simply rendered, Nancy was able to communicate a wide range of emotions. She was especially endearing when angry, which was easy to see, since she would eject pen-and-ink droplets in every direction! Nancy's ragmuffin pal, Sluggo, was a reliable c omic foil in cartoonist Ernie Bushmiller's multi-decade succession of corny jokes. Wearing raggedy, patched-up clothing and sporting a low-brow cap, the young lad lived in a broken-down house, seemingly without adult supervision. As he lazily meandered through life, young Sluggo met the challenges of a hand-to-mouth existence, as well as the annoyances of authority, with a happy-go-lucky attitude that belied his low estate. No matter what kind of trouble they got in to Nancy was always Sluggo's "goil" and they continue to appear in newspapers... |
Amy and Jordan Bendable Figure set
 | Legendary "neo-primitive" artist/cartoonist Mark Beyer has influenced contemporary art and comics with his work over the last twenty years. Gaining attention through covers and stories in RAW magazine, he solidified his place with a long-running weekly comic strip, "Amy & Jordan," that appeared in alternative newspapers nationwide. Last year Pantheon published all of these strips in an impressive hardcover edition. Working directly with Mark Beyer and the sculpting talents at Yoe Studio, Dark Horse has successfully translated these unique characters into large 8" figures. Since Beyer's work is very "2-D," making the characters as figures was a challenge. Fully painted, but also posable, these guys are like some kind of twisted Gumby toy for today's hipsters. Sold as a set in special packaging with Beyer's art, Amy and Jordan are a ray of sunshine and sweetness in an ugly world. |
